He was predeceased by: his sisters, Lillian and Joan Mathieson; and his wife Elizabeth White. He is survived by: his partner Allyson McBryde; his daughter Carolyn (Roger Maitland); his grandchildren, Kevin and Jen (Brandon Hyatt); his great grandchild Kaius; and his son Andrew (Isako Shigekawa).
