He was predeceased by: his son Derek Schmidt; his grandson Lee Guilmette; his mother Marie Schmidt (Fuerst); his siblings, Hein, Walter, Ewald Schmidt and Marinetta Zemke; and also Walter Schmidt.
He is survived by: his wife Pauline Schmidt (Bursey); his children, Georgina Guilmette, Garry Janes (Rita), Jennifer Perry and Stephanie Bilodeau (Michel); his grandchildren, Ashley Guilmette (Daniel), Garry Junior (RJ), Robert Gallippi-Ferreira (Krystina), Jake McCarthy, Erik McCarthy, Rian McCarthy, Ethan Bilodeau (Caitlin) and Christopher Bilodeau; his great grandchildren, Raiden, Freya, Abbigale, Aalyiah and Valentina; his sister Hannegret Volks; and his sisters-in-law, Helga Schmidt and Astrid Schmidt.
