He was great at liveingly up any boring times and get you laughing. We lost contact after awhile but reconnected on Facebook. I’m was sadden to hear of troubles he had after leaving Victoria. My deepest sympathies and condolences to Steve’s family and friends. Steve, you left too soon and too young. RIP Sailor…”

Ken Levert wrote a sympathy message

“I sailed with Steve in the navy. He was a great shipmate, a hard worker, knew his trade and seamanship jobs 100%, and was a great guy to have in our EW section and in our crew. We all had nicknames, Steve got "Uncle Buck" (don't know why). I cherish the time I had with Steve. I am lucky and privileged to have had Steve in my life, as a shipmate, and as a friend. I will remember the good times we had, I will remember Steve. To Steve's family, my sincere thoughts are with you. Ken Levert.”

Joseph Proctor wrote a sympathy message

“Stevie was my friend , our friend which spans a few decades and a few ships. He was a bigger then life guy with an even larger heart and kind soul. He grew distant these last few year’s especially when he moved to Ont and struggled with some Demons. Our last Ship together was HMCS WINNIPEG, where he was named I believe by myself Uncle Buck. We became “Uncle Buck and the three Amigos” Brett Christensen, Reg Barnes and me. We ran ashore and laughed and loved life as we served this great Country”

“My deepest condolences on the loss of a wonderful soul. I was fortunate to have crossed paths with Steve early on in our respective careers. We were roommates on our trades training in Halifax for a while, where I got to experience his wonderful sense of humour and quick wit. That booming laugh of his was very distinctive making it easy to find him in a crowded room once he got going. A great shipmate and friend that I’m grateful to have had the opportunity to work with. Rest peacefully shipmate”

“Steve Orwick, my best of friend of 35 years and great shipmate passed away due to cancer at the age of 55. Steve was always bigger than life. You always knew when he was in the room, where he would welcome anyone. We could talk not for hours but days it seemed like, solving all the Navies problems amongst others or simply playing a game of crib. When Steve became your friend he adopted you, your family, your pets and so on. We will miss him greatly.”
