Kurt Breede wrote a sympathy message

“My late condolences go out to Mark's close friends and family. I only learned of Mark's passing yesterday on a random business call while reminiscing of times I'd spent in Red Lake year's ago. On each of my visits, Mark was one of the few people who took the time to make me feel welcome; he was as generous with his time as he was with his knowledge, teaching me all he had learned about geological modelling, and sharing a round of golf on weekends. Catch you on the 19th hole, Mark.”

Garth Boyd wrote a sympathy message

“Today I was saddened to learn of Mark's passing. I met Mark in high school at Cairine Wilson in Ottawa. We were the "nerdists" who shared technology classes and ate lunch together. He would always buy a plate of chips and share them with us. Mark and I with others formed a software firm that wrote educational software which helped fund tuition. Whenever he visited us he brought my children presents. He was "Big Uncle Mark" to them. He was always a gentle and giving person and we will miss him.”

Mark O'Dea wrote a sympathy message

“I just learned about Mark's passing and wanted to send my sincere condolences to his family. Mark and I graduated from Carleton together and later intersected for a few years while working in Red Lake. He introduced me to the Moody Blues, and some spectacular high grade gold specimens from Red Lake, which got me hooked on the place. Mark loved his community, whether it was Carleton or Red Lake and was a welcoming, kind, generous and caring person. And fun to hang out with. He will be missed”

I had the pleasure of working with him during my time in Red Lake. He was a very warm and outgoing person. Among his many hobbies, I was particularly fond of his unique passion for collecting computer parts and the history they represented. He will be missed.”

Gregory Morris wrote a sympathy message

“Mark was a wonderful and loyal friend. Many of Mark’s friends were welcomed by him at his place on weekends where we would bar-b-q. He would extend invites to people that were often from out of town. After I left Red Lake we kept in touch. I was lucky enough to return the favor to Mark when he traveled to Halifax and stayed with Cynthia and I a few years ago. We had a great time eating lobster, socializing and remembering our time together in Red Lake. Mark will be missed by all who knew him.”

Stephen McGibbon wrote a sympathy message

“I had the privilege of knowing Mark for about 25 years. I first worked with him at Goldcorp in Red Lake from 1996 to 2006 and again recently with Premier since 2017. He pushed me to be a better geologist and was a reliable source of exceptional advice and common sense. Mark was a gentle soul, a proud geek, an avid curler and a respected geologist that sought to make everyone’s day just a little bit better. He will be sorely missed by all his friends and peers that was his social circle and professional fraternity.”
