He was predeceased by: his former wife Ella; his son Tim; his wife Helvi; his parents, William Oikonen and Alma Oikonen; his brothers, Henry, Allan and Ahti; his parents-in-law, Eero and Martta Tarkka; his brothers-in-law, Eino and Elmer Tarkka; and his nephew Billie Oikonen.

He is survived by: his son David (Ursula); his daughter-in-law Sherry; his grandchildren, Kirsti (Doug), Kristian (Janis), Kevin (Danielle), Kyle and Lucas (Sheila); and his great grandchildren, Duncan and Lincoln.

In lieu of flowers should friends desire donations may be made to Royal Canadian Legion Branch 5 or Hilldale Lutheran Church.
