He was predeceased by: his parents, Marie Ternowesky and Jack Ternowesky; his siblings, Shirley Dinner and William "Bill" Ternowesky; his cousins, Betty Huskie and Eileen Hilliard; his aunt Irene; his uncle Jack Huskie; and his pets, Whiskers and Minnie.

He is survived by: his sister Cindy (Wendell); his cousin Leonard Huskie; and his close friend Gene Belisle (Judy).

As a fitting tribute to John's love for animals, donations to the Thunder Bay & District Humane Society are encouraged in lieu of flowers.

“I met John sometime during the 70’s when I was with Lynx Canada. He was just starting to prospect but you knew he had the bug and wasn’t about to ever quit . He came to know the geology of the Thunder Bay area very well and made a number of deals over the years. We made deals with him when I was with Freewest and he was always straight up and honest. The only issue I had with John was that he was hard to get off the phone when he called ! ! John RIP. Mac Watson”
