He was predeceased by: his wife Yanthie; and his parents, Millicent Perera and Michael Perera. He is survived by: his children, Neshanthi Sloan (Kevin), Janaka Perera (Kristy) and Dil Troup (Ian); his grandchildren, Jared, Noah and Naomi; his siblings, Manel Perera (Lakshman), Sriyani Perera of Dalugama and Nalin Perera (Priya) of Melborne, Australia.; his nieces and nephews, Samantha Perera (Shandala), Chaminda Perera (Vasana), Dhineli Silva (Asela) and Duane Perera of Melborne, Australia.; his close friend Francis Perera (Soma); and his caregivers, Colleen, Laurie, Jocelyn and Paul MacNeil.
In honour of Mel's many philanthropic projects in his homeland, the family would appreciate cash donations which would be used for various charities in Sri Lanka.
