He was predeceased by: his parents, George Cyril William Ayton and Carol Jean Ayton (Leng); and his brother-in-law Ty Bakti. He is survived by: his wife Joanne (Townend); his children, Leigh (Jamayca), Sarah (Kieran) and Alex (Mike); his siblings, John (Carol) and Deborah; his sister-in-law Janet (Paul); and his nieces and nephews, Lyndsay, Mike, Taylor, Logan, Heather, Erin and Lauren. He is also survived by many extended family, friends.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Big Move Cancer Ride (Team name: Mark's PanCan Warriors) or Craig's Cause Pancreatic Cancer Society, organizations close to Mark's heart.

“Mark was an inspiration for me for so.many reasons. He was the ultimate professional engineer and was so great to work with. But he was also a great confidant and mentor to me as we shared our health adventures....and that's how he treated his illness...as if it's just another thing to deal with while carrying on with life and work. He was so proud of his family and his 3 daughters...as am I with my 3 daughters. I miss him. John McGill.”
