He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Gardiner and Dorothy Gardiner (Busteed); and his brother Allan Gardiner (Janis Wadsworth). He is survived by: his wife Brenda Gardiner; his children, James "Jamie" Gardiner, Nicole Robert (Ken), Kerry Ball (Scott) and Kirk Gardiner (Judi); his sister Dianne MacDonald (Don); and his siblings-in-law, Linda DeBurger (Tom) and Stephen Sturgis (Karen). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
