He was predeceased by: his parents, Cecil Button and Inez Button; his brothers, Ken and Mait Button; and his grandson Josiah.

He is survived by: his family Doug; his wife Frances; his children, Sheila Gibson (David), Shelley Nobbs, Darryl Button (Karla) and Shari Morash (Scott); his sisters, Lois Nelson (Wes) and Linda Ford; and his grandchildren, Holly, Emily, Abbey, Samantha, Paige, Lukas, Brooklyn, Lily, Sarah and Ella. He is also survived by six great-grandchildren.

Memorial donations to the Teeswater Medical Centre, Teeswater Agricultural Society or Wingham and District Hospital Foundation would be appreciated as expressions of sympathy.
