He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph and Kathleen; his former wife Carolyn; his daughter Heather; and his siblings, Helen Bergeron (Aurele), Teresa Lee (Tom), Rose Anne Smith (Tom), Frank, Angela Pare (Clare) and Mary Kennette (Richard).
He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth (Liz); his children, Dr. Maureen McHugh (Jim Lilly), Kathleen St. Pierre (Michel) and Dr. Terilyn McHugh (Erich Tenzer); his stepchildren, Todd Bethell (Sylvia Neill) and Gina Bethell (Laurent); and his grandchildren, Aidan, Jaimes, Charlie, Alec, Ian, Kailyn, Liam, Owen, Logan, Casey, Nathan, Wesley, Katya, Ryan and Melody Grace.
