She was predeceased by: her husband George Henry Hornbeek; her parents, John and Gwendolyn; her son Arthur; her granddaughter Esther; her siblings, Wendell, Gordon, James, Sharon Allen and Margaret Thompson; and her brother-in-law Reg.

She is survived by: her children, David (Regina), June Rahim (Masood), Roger, Glenda Andrews (Geoff), Wesley and Joe (Claudia); her grandchildren, Pierce (Amanda), Penning, Jonathan, Christopher (Nadine), Benjamin (Sarah), Kate (Lee) and Natalia; her great grandchildren, Andre, Nathan and Shelby; her siblings, Jack (late Roberta), Lorraine Embury (Sonny), Don (late Elsie), Wayne (Carolyn), Ronnie (Bev) and Linda Ackerman (Finley); and her siblings-in-law, Wilma, Eileen and Sterling Allen. She is also survived by her nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Memorial donation may be made to the Kidney Foundation or Heart & Stoke in memory of Verna.
