Elso Mariotti Obituary
With heavy hearts, the family of Elso (Al) Filippo Gaspero Mariotti announces his sudden passing in his 85th year, on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Beloved husband of nearly 60 years to Nona Mariotti (née Leeman) and devoted father to Elisa, Marco, and Marcello (Lisa). He will be forever cherished by his grandchildren Samantha (Jason), Geneva, Elena, Amina, Marcello, and Tessa. In 1952, Elso immigrated to Canada with his family—Guido (father), Yolanda (mother), Alba (sister), and Derno (brother)—from Lucrezia/Fano, Italy. They passed through Pier 21, arrived in Sault Ste. Marie, and, a few years later settled in Toronto, where they made their home.
A self-made businessman, Al owned and operated one of the first small recycling businesses in the Greater Toronto Area, D'Elso Recycling. Agincourt residents may fondly remember his legendary Allanford garage sales, where he showcased his many treasures. After many years, he retired to the Kingston area, where he found his natural oasis on Loughborough Lake.
A man of many talents, Al restored antique furniture that continues to adorn both his home and the homes of his children. An avid gardener, reader, and outstanding member of his local communities, Al will be remembered for his kindness and generosity to neighbours and strangers alike. His love for the arts and sports was passed on to his children and grandchildren, inspiring their artistic interests and endeavors. A celebration of life is being planned for Spring/Summer 2025, will be announced closer to the date.
