He was predeceased by: his parents, George Reid Bird and Lily Folkard; and his brothers, James (late Shirley) and Maurice (late Edith). He is survived by: his grandchildren, Sarah Bird (Noah), Evan Bird (Ivy), Nick Banfield and Kaden Banfield; his nieces, Karen Dwornik (Jan MacInnes) and Frankford; his significant other Olive (Ollie); and also, Sharon Banfield (David) and Bryan (Brigitte).
