He was predeceased by: his mother Mona Cowan; and his brothers, Max and Ken Cowan. He is survived by: his wife Elaine Cowan; his children, Carol (Paul), Donna, Stacy (Chris), Brent (Maryanne) and Sean Holmes (Denise); and his grandchildren, Jessica, Erika, April, Nikki, Shawn, Jordan and Emily.
