He was predeceased by: his spouse Elli; his parents, Leevi Haaranen and Vieno Haaranen (Lakanen); and his sibling Antti Haaranen. He is survived by: his daughters, Linda Foerster and Sheila Haaranen; and his grandchildren, Jennifer, Christopher, Thomas and Melanie.
