He was predeceased by: his parents, Donald Alexander McGillivray Sr. and Florence Elizabeth McGillivray; his stepmother Lucette McGillivray; his sister Sandra Suzanne Simpson (Ian) of Wetaskiwin, Alberta.; his wife Marlene McGillivray; and his son Don McGillivray Jr. (Jean McGillivray).

He is survived by: his nephew Robert Simpson (late Wendy); his nieces, Lisa Holtner (Blair) and Linda Schmidt (Jeff); his children, Heather McGillivray, Glen McGillivray and Vantha Chic; his stepdaughter Tammy; his grandchildren, Sara, Allison McGillivray, Bill, Derick (Kasia), Jesse Van Embden (Shannon), Lindsay Mattyasovszky-Zsolnay (Nick), Jessica (Mark), Melissa (Dragon) and Jon McGillivray (Ellie); and his great grandchildren, Madison, Callem, Boston, Norah and Amelia.
