She was predeceased by: her parents, Jack Penfound and Bernice Penfound; and her son Christopher Van. She is survived by: her husband Bert Schalk; her daughters, Laura Martin (Mark) and Kristen McNeil; her grandchildren, Devin, Ally Martin, Spencer, Morgan and Connor Byrne; her great grandchild Porter; and her siblings, Sharon Young, Mona Lewis (Doug), Gwen Kerslake (Dan) and Douglas Penfound. She is also survived by her extended family and friends.

As an expression of sympathy, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be appreciated by the family.
