He was predeceased by: his parents, Grant Thompson and Hazel Thompson; his siblings, Ross Thompson and Jean Watson; and his brother-in-law Paul Wambua.

He is survived by: his wife Marjorie Thompson (McCaw); his children, Tracy Zemmelink (Richard) and Paul Thompson; his grandchildren, Lauren Zemmelink, Emeline Zemmelink, Lily Thompson and Rosie Thompson; his siblings, Terry Thompson (Sherrie), Judy Westgate (Leonard), Mary Thompson, Roy Thompson (Bev), Susan Thompson, Barb Carter (Lewis) and Anne Thompson-Wambua; and his siblings-in-law, Sonia Thompson and Ken Watson (Sharron). He is also survived by his many extended family, nieces, nephews, cousins.
