He was loved and cherished by many people including: his siblings, Gary William Gray of Wisconsin, USA and June Alice Wisemen of Texas, USA.; his children, Elizabeth Alice Sandor (David W.), Rebecca Frances McClure (Scott), Simeon Warren Gray and Nathanael William Gray; his grandchildren, Sarah, Joshua, Sephora Sandor, Megan, Lillian McClure and Tolomeo Gray; and his parents, Gertrude Bernice and Frank Gray.
His contribution to astronomy included being president of the International Astronomical Union Commission 36 on the Theory of Stellar Atmospheres (1988-1991), serving on the observing-time allocation panels for international collaborations such as Hubble Space Telescope and the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope, but he was equally proud of the work done at Western's Elginfield Observatory.
