He was predeceased by: his parents, Dora Ryan and Maitland Ryan; his sister Louise; and his siblings-in-law, Hugh Baird, Jean and Neil Hunter.

He is survived by: his wife Marie (Symons); his sister Susan Mole (Rodger); and his caregiver Rachel. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
