He was predeceased by: his wife Elizabeth; and his parents, Ralph Hillgartner and Mary Hillgartner. He is survived by: his children, Beth (Nick), Allysun and Krystine; his granddaughter Sofia; his siblings, Ellen, Stephen, Gordon, Gail (late Cliff) and Kathy (Mark); his nieces and nephews, Rachel (Craig), Christy (Kyle) and Jeff; and his close friend Bruce (Mary).
