He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd Byrd and Mary Byrd; his wife Lorena Ann Byrd; and his siblings, Orlan Byrd (Eileen) and Irene Lyon (John).

He is survived by: his friend Jean Wilson; his daughters, Ann Machan-White (Garry) of McArthur's Mills and June Byrd-Johnston (Kevin) of Gunter; and his grandson Adam Machan (Olga) of Toronto.
