Vera-Anne Kalbol wrote a sympathy message

“Jean was my mom’s best friend. In the 1960s, when my mom learned of Jean’s affair with my dad, she lost her husband and best friend the same day. I only visited Dad once after their marriage and Jean refused to speak to me. Dad said the next time I went to Windsor I would stay at their house so, as someone who does not wish to be where she isn’t wanted, I never went back. I cannot forgive Jean for depriving a daughter of her father. I have often wondered if she didn’t like the reminder of what she had done and if that’s why she did not welcome me. She didn’t know me so it clearly wasn’t personal. I was very sad to learn at his funeral that Dad’s best friend did not know he had two daughters and I do believe that was Jean’s doing. Clearly she wished to erase my older sister and me from the family and I later learned that she kept him away from others in his family too. I do hope her years in the church helped her atone for the serious damage she caused. Breaking up your best friend’s family in such a terrible way does not seem to be something a God-loving person should do. My mother was devastated for the rest of her life by the betrayal of people she loved and trusted. A beautiful obituary for someone whose actions didn’t deserve it.”
