He was predeceased by: his siblings, Klaas (Wil), Otto, Hiltje (Jan), Geertje (Eelke), Ybeltje (Cor), Maaike Jantje (Melle) and Sjoukje (Jan).
He is survived by: his spouse Judigje (Judie); his children, Baukje (Dale Sweeney), Otto (Gabe), Wil (Lara Coombs), Ken (Donna) and John Jr. (Peggy); and his siblings, Henry (Tina), Boukje (late Jan) and Truss (late Douwe). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and many great nieces and nephews.
