She was predeceased by: her parents, Dot McCarthy and Roy McCarthy. She is survived by: her children, Linda Kirvan (Michael Zweig), Robert Kirvan (Natalie) and Dan Kirvan (Christine); and her grandchildren, Sidney (Linda), Abby, Megan, Emma (Rob), Hazel and Florence (Dan).

“My name is Gwen Slade. Janet was more than my colleague, she was a true friend. Janet was my rock during very turbulent times. Can't begin to express my sorrow. Janet was a woman of grit, honor and integrity. Not to mention she was a good nurse who practiced with compassion, knowledge and a delightful sense of humor. She loved her two 'girls' and her family. Her loss is profound. My deepest sympathy to her family. I know I have lost a loyal true friend I will never have again.”
