He was predeceased by: his parents, Karl Riess and Margaret Riess; and his siblings, Karl, Theresia and Margaret.

He is survived by: his wife Carol; his sons, Jeff (Valerie) and James (Nicole); and his grandchildren, Avery and Declan.
