He was predeceased by: his parents, Alberta Hoekstra and Al Hoekstra; and his siblings, Gary Hoekstra and Renske "Renee" Schaafsma (late Henk). He is survived by: his wife Elizabeth "Liz" Hoekstra (Medema); his children, Allen Hoekstra, Jane Hoekstra (Rob Brockett) and Grace Defayette (Rene); and his sister Sadie Dykstra (late Jack). He is also survived by several brothers and sisters in law, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Memorial donations may be made to the Caring Cupboard Food Bank, the Salvation Army or to the charity of one's choice.
