Dorothy Rice Obituary
RICE – Dorothy (née Merritt) of Terrace Lodge, Aylmer and formerly of St. Thomas, passed peacefully at the St. Thomas-Elgin General Hospital on Saturday, July 17 th, 2021, at the age of 86. Beloved wife of the late Donald Rice (2005). Dearly loved mother of Deby Cooper (Gary) and the late Judy Cornfoot (late Ken) and step-mother of David Rice (Cindy), Donalda Layte (Pete) and the late Mark Rice.
Cherished grandmother of Jon Marks (Rochelle), Stacy Bright (Jim) and step-grandmother of Eric, Brandon, Alexis, Jennifer and Jodi. Adored great-grandmother of Erika, Ayden, Sydney, Lillian, Noah and Alivia. Predeceased by her siblings, Helen Merritt and Edward Merritt. Survived by sister-in-law Muriel Russell (Late Harold) of Chatham.
Lovingly remembered by several extended family members and dear friends. Dorothy was born in St. Thomas on February 17th, 1935, daughter of the late Edward D. and Hazel (Trigger) Merritt. She was a long-time member of Centre Street Baptist Church. Dorothy retired after working for over 25 years at Dana (Victor Division). After her retirement, she volunteered for many years with Caring Cupboard, Community lunches at her church, and the Dana Retirees.
She also loved to travel and meet new people. Resting at Williams Funeral Home, 45 Elgin Street, St. Thomas where visitation will be held on Tuesday, July 20th from 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held at Williams on Wednesday, July 21 st, 2021 at 11:00am. Interment to follow in Union United Church Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or to the Canadian Diabetes Association.
