Paul Kelly wrote a sympathy message

“I once did have a comrade. No one better you would find...... Brock, we first met at Western in 1982; joined the Army RESO programme together; attended the notorious Pre-RESO of 1983 in Borden; trained in Gagetown; were housemates for two years subsisting only on tea and bread talking long into the night/early morning; volunteered to work for no pay on Militia work parties in order to get free rations yet each had a dinner jacket hanging in one's closet; bumped into each other by accident whilst crawling about on the ground leading our respective platoon and troop well past a rainy midnight in the field whilst on exercise in Petawawa and like something out of a PG Wodehouse story jumped up laughed clapped each other on the back so it it was to meet a friend in such circumstances and had a quick reunion with camouflage paint on our faces with scrim and branches in our helmets. I won't remind you of our epic adventures in London ON, Owen Sound, Sauble Beach, Meaford Edinburgh or Harrogate North Yorks and nightly excusrions into London Ontario. I also saw first-hand the consummate officer who did not suffer fools gladly when it counted "Just get digging". I also knew your humorous side well and what riotous times they were; lived to the fullest extent possible. We last met in July 2018 in London and enjoyed an afternoon-long luncheon at a Turkish restaurant and carried on the motion until the pubs closed that night. Two men in their fifties, re-living old times as if they were in their twenties. In retrospect, it was a grand send-off done with style enjoying ourselves whilst arguing arcane bits of history, re-fighting old arguments and not giving in – perhaps some wavering but no surrender on either side, a lot of kibbitzing and laughing a great deal throughout. I am heartbroken by the news and I shall miss you very much Brock. What is left of my heart goes out to Canon and Mrs Millman, Bronwyn and Carole and family members. When I next see you, I'm going get that 50 quid; the trouble is by then, there will be nowhere to spend it.”
