He was predeceased by: his wives, Joan Sykes (Kew) and Ruby Sykes (Davison); his siblings, Jane Chapman and William; and his parents, Joseph William and Elva Sykes (Dickinson).

He is survived by: his daughters, Janet Walton and Judy Bailey (Phil); and his grandchildren, Melanie, Aaron, Rebecca, Matthew and Brandon.

“So sorry to learn about the passing of Alvin. He and Joan were my adoptive grandparents back in the late 90s and the turn of the century. Every day after school we'd hang out with them until my parents were home from work. They were very thoughtful and caring people. I always will have a fondness for them both. Last time I ever saw Alvin was during his wedding day to Ruby. He seemed so happy. I'm glad to have that as my last memory of him.”
