She was predeceased by: her spouse Vladimir Fortenbacher; her parents, Frederich Wittmann and Magdalena Wittmann; her siblings, Frederich Jr., Magdalena and Herta; and her granddaughter Virginia Schlauch.

She is survived by: her children, Astrid (Henry Schlauch), Aron (Tamara McCarty), Carola (Jay Schlatter), Lydia (Todd Graf), Wanda (Roscoe Hilty), Ingrid, Rosanne (Dan Graf), Magdalena (Clint Schmidt), David, Johanna, Barbara (Arlyn Zollinger) and Miriam (Nathan Reutter); her siblings, Jakob Wittmann and Florina Neu; and her sister-in-law Anna Ivkovic. She is also survived by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
