He was predeceased by: his spouse Phyllis Eckhardt; his grandsons, Christopher Eckhardt and Rob Moore; and his siblings, Martha Dingwall, Allie Randall, Edna Bowman, Andress Eckhardt, Sadie Morrison and Ada Wells.

He is survived by: his children, Arthur Eckhardt (Lorna) of Durham, Philip Eckhardt (Colleen) of Durham, Jonathan Eckhardt (Margaret) of Durham, David Eckhardt (Darlene) of Durham, Phyllis Ann (Michael Freishleben) of Harriston, Edwin Eckhardt (Donna) of Port Perry and Laurie Eckhardt (Karren) of Lefroy; and his sibling Mary Rogers.
