He was predeceased by: his parents, Elisabeth (Betty) and Arthur Edward Laverty; his stepfather E. Grant Baker; and his siblings, Susan Laverty and Phil Baker.

He is survived by: his wife Margaret (Peggy); his children, Brian Laverty (Catherine Arthurs), Sandra Laverty (Chris Edwards) and Suzanne Laverty (Stuart McCubbin); his siblings, Patrick Laverty (Gail Taylor) and Barbara Gauthier (late J. P. Gauthier); his sister-in-law Elizabeth Black; and his mother-in-law Marguerite.
