He was predeceased by: his wife Elaine; his parents, Thomas Hext and Sarah Hext; and his brother George. He is survived by: his children, Tracy, John Steadman of Wyoming, Dan, Mary Jo of Kanata, Larry of Petrolia, Rod and Jane of Wyoming; his grandchildren, Craig Steadman (Brianna), Cory Steadman (Tiffany), Brandon, Austin Hext, Mackinlay, Gracynn Hext, Sarah and Becky Hext; his great grandchildren, Bennett, Andilyn, Collins, Laurel and Peyton; and his sister-in-law Sherri Hext.
