He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Gordon Root and Pauline Root; his wife Susan; his children, Tracy (Leif) and Mark; his grandson Jeremy (Kailey); his great grandchild Layla; and his siblings, Mickey, Ken and Sylvia (Jerry). He was also cherished by many nieces and nephews.

As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the SPCA/ASPCA and St. Jude's Hospital, both of which, he donated to for many years.
