Ryan David Girard Obituary
After a long battle with addiction, our 28-year-old son, Ryan David Girard
(Ryan, Ry-Guy, Raj, Gump, Gumper, Pints, Monkey 1) died of a drug overdose on February 8, 2024. Beloved son of David and Susan. Dear brother of Mitchell. Cherished grandson of Ted and Betty Maker and David (deceased) and Delores Girard. Many Aunts, Uncles and cousins. Our family would like to speak the truth about his death. Silence would mean Ryan's death was in vain, but if one person's life is saved by his story, I would tell it over and over. Fentanyl and opioids are terribly addictive substances, and unfortunately, addiction is a disease that has no cure.
Ryan was born in Bradford Ontario and moved to Otonabee almost 22 years ago. Ryan loved water sports (especially wake boarding and wake skating), hockey, and soccer. He always had a soft spot for all animals and was kind and gentle with children and pets. He had an infectious laugh, a "heart of gold", was extremely sensitive, and tried to find the positive in most situations. Sue always said that he was the Switzerland between arguing parties. When young, Ryan was above average academically and athletically, but drugs stole his soul.
In honour of Ryan, we are having a drop-in at our house in Otonabee
Sunday, March 3rd, 2024
Noon - 5:00 p.m.
The plan is to keep it informal with lots of hugs and laughs in honour of Ryan' s style.
All are welcome.
Dave (Buddy) Girard
