Bernie Blair, age 89, passed away on June 26, 2024. Lovingly remembered by his wife Helen (Campbell) Blair and sons Robert Campbell Blair (Jocelyn) of Wasaga Beach/Newmarket/Aurora and David Roy Blair (Marian) of Harrowsmith/Kingston, grandparents of Duncan Campbell Blair (Jasmine) of Cobden/Kingston, and Ryan James Blair of Newmarket. Bernie is the son of the late Gwendolyn (Douglas) and Robert Blair both of Ottawa.
All who knew Bernie, knew that great laugh! He so enjoyed family and friends and just loved life! He was a quiet, kind and gentle man. His interests in later life included playing bridge and for most of his life he was an avid golfer.
Bernie and Helen both served in the RCAF, and enjoyed world travels, gathering many acquaintances and close friendships as a result of their travels. The first several years following the RCAF, Bernie worked at Sterling Drug in Aurora, after which he spent years in the pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries in the Toronto area.
During the years in Aurora, Bernie was deeply involved in minor hockey both coaching and serving on the executive. Together with Helen they were involved in organizing the first Canadian minor hockey team to officially, visit Europe. Bernie was a 40 year member of the Aurora Legion branch 385.
He excelled at golf and snooker, and as a young man was competitive at basketball and gymnastics.
Bernie was interested in the genealogy history of his family from Gourock, Scotland, who were well known mariners.
At Bernie's request there will be no formal funeral, however, an informal gathering of friends will take place at a, later date. Immediate family will attend interment at the Guthrie Cemetery in Oro-Medonte.
