He was predeceased by: his parents, Hendrik Boertien and Gertrude Boertien; his siblings, John, Ann and Grace; and his sister-in-law Marilyn Moore.

He is survived by: his wife Gladys Boertien (Moore); his children, Brian, Denise Boertien of Palmerston, Sandra Bode, Will Crittenden of Hayden Idaho, Steve, Shelley Boertien of St Thomas and Christine Friedrich (Shawn Weltz) of Palmerston; his grandchildren, Therese, Justin Boertien (Kaitlyn), Jared Boertien (Raechel Worte), Aaron Bode (Cora), Zach Bode (Anna), Nicole Boertien, Jazzmin Boertien, Jessica Orr, Victoria Orr, Skylar Friedrich and Triston Friedrich; his great grandchildren, Jaydon, Jaxon, Damian, Brooklynn, Mackenzie and Addison; his siblings, Margaret, Ron Frank, Tony and Sue Boertien; and his siblings-in-law, Helen Boertien, Robert, Doris Moore and Barbara Ann MacTavish. He is also survived by his many nieces, nephews and friends.
