He was predeceased by: his parents, Jelle Dejong and Aukje Dejong; his sister Alieda Harvey (Leonard); and his parents-in-law, Linda, Glen (Cora) and David Gamble.

He is survived by: his children, Julie Ruhl (Shawn) of Bracebridge, Jerry Dejong (Tracey) of Desboro and Trudy Waugh (Jeff) of Chatsworth; his grandchildren, David, Michael (Kait), Adam Ruhl, Brodie, Brandon (Jenn), Mitchell Dejong (Jess), Luke (Olivia Henderson) and Abby Waugh (Brodie Donnelly); his siblings, Paul (Helen), Pieter (Anna) and Norman Dejong (Susan); his siblings-in-law, Keith, Louise Gamble and Mary Anderson (Ken); his goddaughter Heather Cavill; and his spouse Jean Gamble. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
