Trees Maria Cecile Gan Obituary
Peacefully, at the McGill University Health Centre in Montreal on October 19, 2019, Trees Maria Cecile Gan (née Lim) passed on to heaven at the age of 82 after a valiant battle with lymphoma. Beloved mother of Renée Gan (Keith Forneck), Monica Gan (Darren Ducharme) and Bruce Gan. Dear sister of Relly Kwee (Wie Han Kwee, deceased).
Cherished Oma (grandmother) of Regan, Riley and Bryce Forneck; Declan and Elodie Ducharme; Charlotte and Elizabeth Gan. Treasured aunt of Roy Ismail Kusumadinata, James Ismail and George Ismail. Predeceased by her husband Stanley Vitalis Johannes Gan, brother Michael Tjuan Keng Lim (Leny), mother Ay Mie “Emmy” Lie and father Lian Han “Hans” Lim.
Trees was a selfless and devoted mother and grandmother. She led by example of being a good person. She left her home country of Indonesia just after getting married, bound for the US and later Canada, taking on life resolutely with steadfastness, courage and delight.
She spoke three languages fluently, was a patient and kind teacher to her children, and most recently, her grandchildren with whom she lovingly played. Trees derived great joy in celebrating her children and grandchildren’s endeavours and successes. She was very practical, and remarkably, got her driver’s license at the age of 63 to transport her ill husband back and forth to doctor appointments.
She enjoyed reading, and travelling the world with her dear sister Relly. She moved through life with dignity, elegance, and grace, touching many people along the way and faced death bravely and serenely. She will be missed very much.
Friends may call at McEvoy Shields funeral home, 1411 Hunt Club Rd., Ottawa on Friday, October 25 from 6 – 9 p.m. The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, October 26 at Saint Bernard Catholic Church, 1720 St. Bernard St, Ottawa K1T 1K8 at 10:00 a.m. Interment at Hope Catholic Cemetery.
