Rudolph Duschner Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce Rudolph (89) has passed away peacefully. He is survived by his wife, Ilse, his daughters Petra (Jonathan) and Gabrielle, and his grandchildren Rebecca and Jeffrey. Born in Germany, Rudolph came to Canada and opened his tailor shop in old Ottawa South in 1960. His shop soon became the place where customers became friends, dropping by with coffee to discuss politics. In 1978, Rudolph was bestowed the rank of Honorary Sergeant by the 78th Fraser Highlanders in recognition of his contribution to the regiment’s living heritage. In 1992, he was awarded the Queen’s Confederation Medal for outstanding community service.
After 37 years in his shop, which he loved, Rudolph retired to travel with Ilse and spend more time at their cottage on the Big Rideau Lake. He was an avid skier, table tennis player, and, swimmer at the local pool, where he would meet “the boys” daily and then chat over coffee.
As a husband, he and Ilse forged a loving, happy and successful life in Ottawa, while remaining close to family in Germany. As a father, his daughters were his pride and joy. He provided guidance, support and much love to Petra and Gabrielle. As a grandpa, his love was enduring, and his pride immense. Rudolph will be deeply missed, yet his love will always be felt as his legacy and spirit remain within us.
We would like to thank the exceptional medical staff at the Ottawa Civic Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to Rudolph’s favourite charities: the Ottawa Humane Society; and, the University of Ottawa Heart Institute.
