He was predeceased by: his parents, Margaret Dobson and Meyril Dobson; and his sister Anne Strathern. He is survived by: his children, Chris Dobson and Lisa Dobson (Dave Mander); his grandchildren, Tristen and Olivia; his niece Wendy Da Ros (Anthony); his nephew Ron Strathern (Monique); his parent-in-law Vena Shanks; his stepsons, Paul Duncan, Justin Duncan (Linda) and Bryan Duncan (Marlee); his stepgrandchildren, Tavin, Charlotte, Lenora and Brooklyn; his siblings-in-law, Cathy Albert (Rejean), Raymond Shanks (Diane), Kenton Shanks (Barb), Orllie Gogolin (Mark), Vida Gogolin (Kirby) and Glenna Shanks; his stepgrandchild Asher Duncan; and his parent-in-law Reg Shanks.
