He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Benwell and Ludy Benwell; and his siblings, Austin Benwell, Eric Benwell, Beulah King, Myrtle Kierstead and Grancil Benwell.

He is survived by: his wife Mary Ruth Benwell; his son Jason Benwell; his daughter-in-law Janice Ma; his daughter Jane Kelly; his son-in-law Jim Kelly; his daughter Amanda Benwell; his son-in-law Hassan Harb; his grandchildren, Katherine Benwell, Nicholas Benwell and Maya Harb; and his brothers, Byron Benwell and Maynard Benwell.
