He was predeceased by: his wife Annie (Bridgeman); his son Brian Burnett (late Gail); and his parents, Alberta Burnett and Duncan Burnett. He is survived by: his daughter Bonnie Burnett; his grandchildren, Vicki Visneskie (James) and Gregory Burnett; and his great grandchildren, Amy, Jason Visneskie and Heather Burnett.

In Merrill's memory donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
