Kenneth Allison Pettigrew Obituary
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kenneth Allison Pettigrew (Ottawa, Ontario) at the age of 93. Ken passed away October 4th after a short illness at Ottawa’s General Hospital. Born in Springhill, Nova Scotia to Basil and Ruby Pettigrew, Ken joined the Navy at age 16 and served aboard HMCS Haida during the Korean War. In 1950, while visiting Prince Edward Island on shore leave, Ken met the love of his life, Catherine (Kitty) Larkin.
While raising their 4 children - Wendy, Ken, David and Shari - Ken’s work took him to Halifax and Ottawa several times before he retired from the Navy in 1996 and soon joined the Ottawa-based RCMP telecommunications team. The family settled in Osgoode where Ken was an active member of the Osgoode United Church and the Lions Club. He was a regular volunteer at local community events and a keen supporter of his sons’ participation in hockey and softball.
For 50 years, Ken and Kitty spent summers at their cottage in Malpeque, P.E.I. where he was a member of the local chapter of the Order of the Eastern Star.
As a Veteran, Ken was always involved with the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 589. He annually participated in Remembrance Day events and speaking engagements at area schools.
