He was predeceased by: his parents, Olga Freiwald and Alfred Freiwald; and his sister Ursula Bastian (late Horst). He is survived by: his wife Teresa Freiwald; his children, Susie Simpson (late Bill), Rosie Milito (Ron), Sharon Freiwald, Bob Freiwald (Susan) and Julianna Cornellier (Roland); his grandchildren, Allison, Valerie, Michael, Lina, Jason, Matthew and Alexander; his great grandchildren, Enza and William; and his brother Helmut Freiwald (Gitta).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to the University of Ottawa Heart Institute (https://foundation.ottawaheart.ca) would be appreciated by the family.
