He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Arthur Edward Atkinson and Eleanor Dunlop; his wife Elaine; his children, Michael (Gabriela Lopez), Paul (Sue Nabieszko), Peter (Reva Weatherall), Suzanne (Bob Best), Greg (Lisa Brinston), John and Mary Elin Moore; his grandchildren, Jeremy (Rebecca Lafontaine), Daniel (Alexa Carter), Bethany (Frank Pellerin), Rebecca (Peter Darwent), Jesse, Dylan (Megan Bell), Jacob, Madeleine, Nicholas, Sarah, Meghan and Alex; and his great grandchild Avila.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations, in Gord's memory, to either the Ottawa Heart Institute or the Queensway-Carleton Hospital.
