“Remembering my High School principal from Ridgemont High School in Ottawa Today. Mr P/Glen Pettinger was never my teacher but as a principal for my 5 years in high school he was a patient and kind man. He was a leader but did not push his views. He was stern but always gave us the 'you know the right thing to do' look. He understood me personally - he knew that my path included learning that was not in the classroom. He gave me time to serve in Key Club as club president, District Translator, District Governor and International Trustee - which involved weeks away from school travelling all over the US and Canada while still making sure I got my school work done. He stood up for me in Grade 10 when I was away from school for months due to illness when my English teacher wanted to fail me due to 'attendance' even though I managed to get an A in the class. He was always smiling. Our graduating class was already making plans for our next reunion in June 2020 and Mr P was going to attend. He may not have remembered me - but I think that is the hazard of being a truly great educator: you touch the lives of so many young people, hope that you inspire them to lead off on their chosen path, give them courage to know that they can change that path a few times - and say a silent 'That wil do just fine' Mr P we will miss you and my family's thought and prayers are with you and your family Angie Angelique Ball Class of 1987”
