He was predeceased by: his parents, Frances Carter and Jack Carter; his brother John "Herbie" Carter; and his stepson Dennis "DJ" Rogers. He is survived by: his girlfriend Norma Rankin; his brother Stewart Carter (Joan); his sibling-in-law Greer Carter (Bob); his children, Cresswell Carter (Shirley) and Marney Howden (Paul); his stepchildren, David Rogers (Lisa) and Tracey Rogers; his grandchildren, Ethan, Nolan, Grant, Brielle, Sarah, Jacob (Carly), Jessica (Jeremy), Jenna (Matt) and Gregory; his great grandchildren, Jaxton and Dawson; his nephew Scott Carter (Annette); his niece Julie Carter (Jim); and also Joan Brown.
